It is amazing really that it took off so quickly and that so many more people seem to be listening to them than ever had personal stereos before. I suppose it is due to the fact that you can put any track on there and you are not limited to the tracks that are on your CD but you can have a great deal more. It is a great thing to have especially when exercising for example as jogging with a CD player could cause the CD to jump and tapes just did not last long enough and had to be turned over.
